چکیده

Our trust in specific symmetric primitives relies on their ability to resist all known cryptanalytic attacks. Therefore, cryptanalysis is the only proper way to evaluate their security. In this paper, we investigate the behavior of symmetric primitives in the quantum world. This requires to extend the toolkit of symmetric cryptanalysis to the quantum setting, eventually including new attacks. While running Grover’s search algorithm on a quantum computer brings a quadratic speedup for brute-force attacks, we show that the situation is more subtle when considering differential cryptanalysis. We consider two variants of differential cryptanalysis and apply them to concrete implementations of block ciphers. From these applications, we conclude that increasing the key length may not always be the best strategy to increase the security, and that the best quantum attack is not always the same as the best classical attack.

A new CPA resistant software implementation for symmetric ciphers with smoothed power consumption: SIMON case study

In this paper we propose a new method for applying hiding countermeasure against CPA attacks. This method is for software implementation, based on smoothing power consumption of the device. This method is evaluated on the SIMON scheme as a case study; however, it is not relying on any specific SIMON features. Our new method includes only AND equivalent and XOR equivalent operations since every ...

Stream ciphers and the eSTREAM project

Stream ciphers are an important class of symmetric cryptographic algorithms. The eSTREAM project contributed significantly to the recent increase of activity in this field. In this paper, we present a survey of the eSTREAM project. We also review recent time/memory/data and time/memory/key trade-offs relevant for the generic attacks on stream ciphers.

About the Security of Ciphers (Semantic Security and Pseudo-Random Permutations)

Probabilistic symmetric encryption have already been widely studied, from a theoretical point of view. Nevertheless, many applications require length-preserving encryption, to be patched at a minimal cost to include privacy without modifying the format (e.g. encrypted filesystems). In this paper, we thus consider the security notions for length-preserving, deterministic and symmetric encryption...

Post-Quantum Security of the Fujisaki-Okamoto and OAEP Transforms

In this paper, we present a hybrid encryption scheme that is chosen ciphertext secure in the quantum random oracle model. Our scheme is a combination of an asymmetric and a symmetric encryption scheme that are secure in a weak sense. It is a slight modification of the Fujisaki-Okamoto transform that is secure against classical adversaries. In addition, we modify the OAEP-cryptosystem and prove ...

A Tight High-Order Entropic Quantum Uncertainty Relation with Applications

We derive a new entropic quantum uncertainty relation involving min-entropy. The relation is tight and can be applied in various quantum-cryptographic settings. Protocols for quantum 1-out-of-2 Oblivious Transfer and quantum Bit Commitment are presented and the uncertainty relation is used to prove the security of these protocols in the boundedquantum-storage model according to new strong secur...
